The return match
Baines Jewitt XI v SG Petch
Our most hospitable of hosts must have enjoyed beating us a fortnight ago – so much so they invited us back for another beating!
Batting first they soon rattled up 141 for 6 with notable contributions from Rob, Dave and Stephen Blackett, who each reached 25+ no. Pick of the bowlers were Andy Loynes, who only conceded 6 of his 2 overs, and Darrell Martin who conceded only 4 and took two wickets, both caught by Andy Loynes at silly mid off. Alan Reed took 2 for 11, one caught by wk John Cowan, the other bowled. Marty Jenkins also bowled well, taking 1 for 11, caught by Andy Loynes.
Quite a formidable target to chase, SG Petch opened with Andy Loynes and Nick Tadd, and they got off to a steady start with 30 up in the first 5 overs before Nick fell to a yorker for 5, but Marty Jenkins came in to join Andy and both went on to score 25+ and although there was a faint chance of chasing the total at this stage, wickets started to fall and momentum was lost. Alan Reed managed 17 no but to no avail as SG Petch only managed 112-6 by the end of their 20 overs.
MOM without any doubt, Andy Loynes for his bowling, 4 excellent catches at silly mid-off, and 28 runs not out.
Great consolation (if there was any!) was supplied with yet another wonderful spread put on by Baines Jewitt prepared by the friendly Yarm CC bar staff, and the excellent Banks real ale! Impossible to finish it all (the food), but Andy Smith filled a bucket to take away with him for his lunch today, hard to believe, but even after this, there was loads left!
Next match tonight 15th July at Darlington CC v The Fairfield Foxes commencing at 6pm.
