Will the Mazda MX-5 GT concept become a reality?
Ben Barry test drives the Mazda MX-5 GT concept model suggesting that Mazda is “teasing us with this faster, harder gem”.
He explains that the current Mazda MX-5 offers a realistic contender to the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, with a lower price tag and a relatively puny 158bhp. Barry explains that now Mazda UK is “hoping to put its roadster back into contention with this, the MX-5 GT”. He goes on to explain that the concept has been upgraded by British based racing squad, Jota Sport.
Commenting on the drive experience, Barry explains: “As ever, the MX-5’s short, slick gearchange is a delight, and the extra performance just makes it even more satisfying to wring the engine out to the redline, slot another gear and then repeat. Do that and you’ll notice that the mods really do transform the 200bhp MX-5, making it quicker in a straight line, yes, but also pairing up brilliantly with the chassis revisions when you drive it hard through the twisty stuff.”
