Top Safety Award Given To The Subaru WRX STI
The USA’s Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the all-new Subaru WRX STI, ‘Top Safety Pick’. This award is the highest possible vehicle safety ranking award given by the IIHS, who are a non-profit organisation supported by car insurers in the USA.
The Subaru WRX STI was subjected to five different types of IIHS crash tests, designed to evaluate occupant safety in the event of an accident. The WRX also earned top rating of ‘Good’ in all categories, earning its criteria required of any ‘Top Safety Pick’.
Crash tests for the IIHS include high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat and head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts.
This non-profit organisation also conducts the demanding ‘small overlap front test’, this crash replicates what happens when the front corner of a car collides with an object like a tree or pylon or another vehicle. The test showed 25 percent of a car’s front end on the driver side strikes a rigid barrier at 40mph.
The new Subaru WRX STI has all the features that have made its predecessors so effective on the track and road, including the brands renowned Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. A stiffer body shell and advanced powertrain management system endow the car with the highest standards of active and passive safety performance.
The new Subaru WRX STI goes on sale in the UK this month priced £28,995. Click here to find out more.
