The New SEAT Ibiza Cupra: The essence of SEAT
The sensational New SEAT Ibiza Cupra has now been unveiled. The Ibiza Cupra was first introduced as a concept during April’s Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, but has now raised the bar in the supermini class.
With a high performance of 0-62mph in just 6.9 seconds, and a top speed of 142mph, the Cupra still manages to maintain an exceptionally high fuel consumption of 47.9 mpg.
The Cupra name was born in 1996 as a special, top-of-the-line Ibiza, built to commemorate SEAT’s World Rally Championship victory in the 2.0-litre category. Since then a Cupra has always featured in the SEAT line-up, being available on both the Ibiza and Leon ranges.
James Muir, President of SEAT S.A, said: “The Ibiza Cupra is one of the icons of the SEAT brand, its stunning design and refined dynamics promise driving fun mile-for-mile. With its innovative technologies, upgraded interior and further improved quality, the new Ibiza Cupra clearly shows how quickly and consistently our brand is continuing to develop.”
The high-tech TSi power unit consists of a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch automatic transmission, with extremely short shift times, and can be operated via paddles mounted behind the steering wheel. The sound actuator in the exhaust system allows for an extra sporty sound, also the chassis has been tuned for maximum agility precision. The car has also been awarded the maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test.
“Spontaneous, powerful acceleration, agile handling, good traction and responsive brakes deliver the kind of driving pleasure that the Cupra name represents. The new Ibiza Cupra is a perfect example of how we at SEAT bring together the very latest technologies from the Volkswagen Group to create a unique and highly rewarding overall package.” said, Dr Matthias Rabe, Vice President for Research and Development at SEAT S.A.
The emotional power of the exterior design is repeated in the interior of the Ibiza Cupra, giving a general feeling of quality. The sports steering wheel features the Cupra logo, as well as Cupra sports seats with optional two-colour leather upholstery. The new, high-performance audio system is perfectly integrated into the centre dashboard, however, is also portable.
