On Thursday 18th June 2015 we hosted our sixth Annual Charity Shield Golf Day at Darlington Golf Club.

The day was in memory of the late Colin Luck, who was General Manager at SG Petch Darlington. Also, the late Mel Marshall, who was our Building Consultant and a close friend of the directors of SG Petch for many years. All money raised from the day will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

We had our best turnout yet, with 73 competitors taking part. The teams were made up of both men and women, with a huge increase in women this year; a total of 13.

The day started with sunshine, bacon butties, tea & coffee. The teams then headed out on course for a shotgun start at 10.30am. Everyone was in high spirits, especially Simon Rees, our Financial Director, who was in a very competitive team and managed not to duff his first shot, then went on to score his personal best, even an Eagle on the second hole!

As the day progressed, the weather took a turn for the worst, with wind, cloud and light rain, making their game a little bit more challenging, as well as warmer clothing appearing from the players golf bags! However, this did not dampen people’s high spirits.

All the teams finished of their day with a hot buffet, drinks and raffle.

Simon Rees, John Sedgwick & John Austin carried out the presentation, with Linda Luck & Sharon Bunker, relatives of the late Colin & Mel, to present all the winners from the days events.

A big well done to all and thank you for everybody’s support. We look forward to next years.

All photos from the day are available on SG Petch Darlington’s Facebook.
