New 6 debuts in Moscow
The stunning all-new Mazda 6 made it’s debut at the Moscow Motor Show today.
Taking design cues from the Takeri concept, the new 6 is arguably Mazda’s most important car launch to date. With its striking good looks and advanced technologies, the Mazda6 will deliver a high-quality, exhilarating driving experience, while offering outstanding environmental and safety performance.
SKYACTIV & KODO the Soul Of Motion
When Mazda engineers dreamed up the SKYACTIV development program they set themselves a set of goals – to thoroughly improve on well established technologies resulting in cars that are both stylish and powerful but more importantly a joy to drive. And whilst the new Mazda6 won’t be short on luxury, Mazda were keen to keep the car lean and mean.
As Mazda 6’s program manager Hiroshi Kajiyama put it: “Of course we wanted to hit a suitable level – one that is an improvement on the current car – but to be the best was not the goal. Quietness adds weight, and that would have compromised us elsewhere.”
It would be fair to assume that when you build a car that is longer, wider, has more legroom, is better equipped and has more power than your outgoing model, you’d add a few pounds here and there. But this is Mazda and convention seems to fly out of the window.
UK specifications haven’t been announced yet but should be released around September when the new 6 makes an appearance at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.
We’d also expect the new Mazda6 to feature a similar engine lineup to those found in the CX-5 crossover. The one engine to watch will be the new EURO 6 2.2 diesel engine. Whilst it produces 150 bhp it’s expected to emit only 105 g/km of CO2. That’s low for car of this size and if Mazda achieve this, it should establish the new 6 as a class leader ahead of the BMW 3-series. Watch this space!

I always owned Mazda’s, preferring them over Fords but they are starting to look a little boring. The current 6 is just like the Mondeo. i had the first 6 and it was quite sporty and fun to drive. They seem to have gone back over in my opinion. Let’s hope this new model delivers. Looks nice by the way.
