Match Report – Gudivers v SG Petch

Once again SG Petch managed to lose in the last over!

Having posted a score of 121 for only three wickets down (again!), our opponents, the Gudivers, managed to surpass this in the last over scoring 122-2 at the Barton CC ground.

SG Petch batted first, Andy Loynes hit 25 no on his first outing of the season, and although Colin Graham was very unlucky by playing one on to his stumps when bowled by Black, John Cowan came in and also reached 25 no. This is John’s third consecutive 25 no this season ! Jess Walker came in and managed 14 before he skied one, caught by Deano Browne at 1st slip, during which time managed to run out Capt Simon Rees on 2. Alistair Stoddart came in and hit 26 no, abley assisted by Alan Reed not out on 22. All in all, should have been enough on a slow wicket under grey, threatening skies. Pick of the Gudiver bowlers were Black, Ithurralde and Browne who only conceded 20 runs between them in their 6 overs.

Deano Browne and Phil Ithurralde (the dreadlock twins!) opened for the Gudivers, and smashed 46 between them before Andy Smith, who had took most of the punishment, got his revenge, and bowled Phil for 14 . Deano carried on to make 30 no with a retiring blow which went for 6. Watson and co then managed to bat out the innings with the loss of only one other wicket to win this closely contested match .

Both teams then retired to the Half Moon in the village, enjoying an excellent spread put on by our illustrious hosts, washed down by some fine Reverand James ale.

Next match is at Etherley CC v King James on Tuesday 24th May commencing 6pm
