Abarth 124 Spider – Performance is in the air
The new Abarth 124 Spider combines the authentic roadster experience with Abarth’s trademark thrills, technical DNA and racing pedigree.
Developed in partnership with the Abarth Racing Team, the 124 Spider demonstrates everything that’s great about Abarth – unmatched performance, skilful craftsmanship, technical excellence and unmistakable Italian design. All from just £25,595.
A delicately tuned 1.4 litre MultiAir Turbo engine punches out 170 bhp, propelling the car from 0-62 mph in 6.8 seconds, and can reach a top speed of 143 mph.
The new 124 Spider comes with Abarth’s Record Monza Dual Mode Exhaust System with 4 tailpipes as standard, creating the throaty growl that they’re famous for.
With a curb side weight of just 1,060 kg – the 124 Spider sets a new benchmark with a weight-power ratio of 6.2kg/HP. The weight is concentrated in the wheelbase for optimum weight distribution (benefitting from a near perfect 50:50). Abarth’s dynamic vehicle set-up guarantees you get the most from its rear-wheel-drive and limited slip differential. While its double-wishbone front suspension and five-link rear set up ensures maximum cornering stability.
Featuring the Brembo braking system with 4-piston fixed front aluminium callipers, this braking system guarantees a very short braking distance and excellent resistance to brake fade.
The Spider is available with a six-speed manual gearbox with quick and accurate shifting from a short-throw, direct lever. An optional extra is the automatic Sequenziale Sportivo gearbox, which has been carefully tuned to exploit all the engine torque and convey genuine racing sensations. Shifting the paddle behind the steering wheel makes changing gear extremely fast. By selecting ‘Sport’ mode on the driving mode selector, performance is boosted even further.
The Abarth 124 Spider comes with state-of-the-art electronic devices and active safety features, but to ensure it provides a race car feeling when on the track, the driver can disengage the electronic controls to experience the perfect mechanical balance and linear engine response – the trademarks of a genuine rear-wheel drive sports car.
The 124 receives royal treatment from the Abarth technicians, who truly love cars. They install special Abarth design features including, a racing anti-glare kit and a matte black treatment for the bonnet and boot lid. The Racing Alcantara Kit emphasises the interior quality, and the dark finish gives it a sportier look and feel.
A selection of 5 colourways are available: Turini 1975 White, Costa Brava 1972 Red, Isola d’Elba 1974 Blue, Portogallo 1974 Grey and San Marino 1972 Black – the names a tribute to the company’s success in rallying.
The Abarth 124 Spider has a three-gauge instrument panel featuring a large rev counter in the middle, a speedometer on the right and a data display on the left, allowing the driver to monitor all key driving information at a glance.
Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, four speaker stereo, MP3 player and USB port.
Other features available on demand include the infotainment system with an ergonomic and intuitive knob on the central unit. According to the configuration, the system can feature a 7-inch colour display, satellite navigation system, DAB digital radio, two USB ports, AUX input, Bluetooth connectivity and a rear backup camera.
For superior sound quality, a Bose premium sound system is available with 9 speakers, including dual headrest speakers on both seats and a subwoofer.
Each vehicle is tested and certified by a qualified Abarth technician who applies a metal plate with the sequential unique number of each car to certify its exclusiveness.
“Designed and engineered to be an authentic roadster embodying all of what Abarth represents, this is a vehicle that will appeal not only to existing customers, but to a whole new group of people who may never have considered an Abarth before,” said Gerry Southerington, Abarth Brand Manager. “It truly offers an extraordinary driving experience.”
